I traveled with family and friends to Oregon in 2017 to see the total solar eclipse. We stayed in a small town called Government Camp at the base of Mt. Hood. There's not much to the town but it's location is absolutely beautiful. One day we hiked through a forest to get to the Timberline Lodge and ski lifts on the mountain, another day we walked around nearby Trillium Lake, which you see here. While that walk was beautiful, a small breeze rippled the water so no reflections were possible. The next morning, our last in Oregon, my body woke up very early of its own accord (no alarm clock was set) and commanded me to return to the lake with camera in hand. Who am I to disobey my own instincts?
I drove the short 10 minute distance, parked, and walked to the lake to find it as smooth and reflective as a mirror and the sun was just coming up.
