Springtime can bring beauty to even the harshest environments. I was visiting friends in Goodyear, Arizona in March, 2020 during my annual pilgrimage to the Valley of the Sun for spring training. Prior to heading to a ballpark, one of my friends took me on a hike not far from her home. The desert was alive with wildflowers and, of course, I brought my camera. I'm not a desert aficionado but if you go at the right time, it has so much to offer. On this hike, I had no shortage of beautiful subjects to shoot. After reaching the summit of a hill, we started down and came across this elegant scene. I took a few pictures, moved around a bit, took a few more, and then noticed the little bird, a cactus wren, that had landed on the arm of the cactus and posed thoughtfully for me. That was the icing on the cake.
