A waterfall doesn't have to be big to be beautiful.
Mammoth Lakes, California, is best known as a top-tier ski resort in the Sierra Nevada range. In the summer, it's very popular among mountain bikers. And the fall belongs to photographers, as the area boasts groves of beautiful aspen trees; towering, snow-covered peaks; a nearby ghost town, and more. Just beyond Mammoth on Hwy 395 is an area called the June Lake Loop, a gorgeous drive that, in the fall, has lots to offer the observant photographer. Traveling with a fellow photographer along the loop, we pulled off the road to shoot a grove of trees that was populated by several foraging deer. Then we crossed the road and discovered this small river that created a huge impression on me – and I hope on you. I created two photos — well, a lot more than that but two that I'm sharing — one with a horizontal and the other with a vertical orientation.
