On the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro
On a recent cruise I took with my wife, we stopped in the tiny town of Kotor, Montenegro. Although the cruise visited Marseille, Rome, Florence and Mykonos, among others, Montenegro was the discovery of the trip. The huge, placid Bay of Kotor is dotted with long narrow villages that start at the edge of the water and rise slightly up the mountainsides behind it; most are probably less that a mile deep by a few miles wide. With ancient castles and fortifications sprinkled along some of the mountains, the effect is both quaint and beautiful. Just outside the bay, you'll find inviting caves and water that is so blue color, you're unlikely to believe your eyes. This is a country we definitely plan to visit again.
